Welcome to Nightmare Nook Books – a UK-based, female-owned online independent bookstore specialising in Horror, Crime, and Thriller fiction.
We created Nightmare Nook Books after growing tired of having to dig through endless Sci-Fi and Fantasy sections in chain bookstores just to find good dark fiction. So, we decided to build the kind of place we’d always wanted to shop in, with a dream of one day opening a physical bookshop for fellow lovers of the dark and the twisted!
Every book and bookish gift in our store is carefully handpicked by our Chief Book Ghoul, and some of the gifts are even handmade by her too.

I’m Cat, and after years working in corporate roles while quietly dreaming of running a bookshop, I finally decided to take the leap and launched Nightmare Nook Books at the beginning of April 2026.
As an avid horror, thriller and crime fan, the darker side of fiction has always been my favourite source of entertainment. From reading Goosebumps as a child, graduating to Point Horror and Point Crime as a teen, and eventually diving deep into the full spectrum of dark fiction as an adult, it’s always been the genre that’s stayed with me.
With Nightmare Nook Books, I want to channel that lifelong passion for the macabre into something more than just a shop – I want to build a community. A place for those just beginning their darker fiction journey to discover new favourites, and for seasoned readers to find their next unforgettable read.
